Fall contest rules

Each fall, Toastmasters clubs all over the world hold a table topics contest and a humorous speech contest.

Table topics contest

All participants start outside the room and then enter one at a time. All participants get the same question. To be qualified for winning they have to speak between 1 to 2.5 minutes. Participants have up to 30 seconds of silence (with no verbal or non-verbal communication) to prepare after they got the question. After 30 seconds (or when they start) the timers will start the clock.

Humorous speech contest

The subject for the humorous speech shall be selected by the contestant. The speaker should avoid potentially objectionable language, anecdotes and material. Contestants must prepare their own five- to seven-minute speech, which must be substantially original. Any quoted material must be so identified during the speech presentation. The speech must be thematic in nature (opening, body, and close) and not be an act or monologue (series of one-liners).

The humorous speech should be within 4.30 minutes to 7.30 minutes to qualify for winning.
